PercentagesSummary My task is to make a webpage on a topic from the textbook. My topic is 9.8, 9.9, and 9.10 (percentages and ratio's). Sample questions 9.8
Percentage just means out of 100. That means if you had 15% it would be 15/100.
Question
Answer
What do these percentages equal in fractions
Answer
34%
34/100
158%
158/100
Convert fractions to percentages
Answer
93/100
93%
72/100
72%
Sample questions 9.9 equations with percentages Adding and Subtracting Adding and subtracting percentages is easy; as long as you know how to add and subtract normal numbers. All you have to do is ignore the percentage sign and do the maths. You've just got to remember to put the sign there at the end as well.
Question
Answer
Adding
Adding
72% + 73% =
145%
84% + 14% =
98%
Subtracting
Subtracting
83% - 35% =
48%
92% - 58% =
34%
Percentages of... When I say percentages of... I mean questions like: find 15% of 30. To find this out you have to multiply the first number by the second number. You will then need to divide to divide the new number by 100.
Question
Answer
find 30% of 85
30 x 85 = 2550 / 100 = 25.5
find 75% of 40
75 x 40 = 3000 / 100 = 30
I also mean questions like: a maths class has 25 students; 15 girls and 10 boys. What percentage of the group is boys. When you come across a question like this you need to convert it to a fraction. When you convert the group of boys and girls into a fraction you need to put the amount of boys on the top of the fraction and the total amount on the bottom. If you put the amount of girls on the top of the fraction you will get their percentage. You then need to turn the total into 100 and multiply the top number by however much you multiplied the bottom number. You then convert the top number to a percentage. A maths class of 50 has 30 girls and 20 boys, answer the following questions.
Question
Answer
What percentage of the class is boys?
total 50 x 2 = 100 boys 20 x 2 = 40 convert 40 - 40%
What percentage of the class is girls?
total 50 x 2 = 100 girls 30 x 2 = 60 convert 60 - 60%
Sample questions 9.10 rations and fractionsRatio's compare amounts of one object to the amount of another. If it took 1 liter of water to keep one fish alive that would be a ratio. Another way of putting it is 1 to 1 or 1:1. A ratio can be used to find how many cats are in the neighborhood compared to dogs. You can convert ratio's to fractions and they can keep getting simplified. For example: 3:12 can be simplified to 1:4.There is 3 loaves of bread and 9 bottles of apple juice.
Question
Answer
What is the ratio?
The ratio is 3:9
What is the ratio simplified?
Simplified 1:3
